Catherine Hollingsworth
Hello! My name is Catherine and I'm a third-year majoring in Biology with a minor in English. I wanted to be a Peer Teacher because in the last year, every time I would visit home, I found myself working with my brother who always came to me for help with his high school biology homework. I've done some tutoring in the past, but this made me realize the intrinsic value of learning and provided me experience in helping others through their struggles, which ultimately led to Peer Teaching for one of my favorite classes. Additionally, I know that it can sometimes feel competitive in these classes, which is why I believe there's great benefit in creating a collaborative learning environment where everyone can succeed in order to relieve some of the immense pressure that students regularly face. Other than Peer Teaching, I volunteer at UVA Health through Madison House. In my free time, I really like reading books, listening to music (mainly the Beatles), and spending time with my dog. This semester, I truly appreciated and enjoyed the opportunity to support students and work with a wonderful TA.
