Prof. Drew Schield and colleagues just published a paper in Molecular Ecology.  They examined the genomes of several swallow species to understand how they diverge from one another. They found that certain regions of the genome consistently show higher differences across species, and these patterns are strongly shaped by how often recombination happens in those regions. They show that repeated bouts of natural selection in the same parts of the genome help drive these patterns.
