Dear Colleagues,
It is my distinct pleasure to announce that the recipient of the ‘22/’23 Departmental Award for Excellence in Teaching goes to Dr. Martin Wu. This award is meant to recognize some combination of performance in the previous year and broader impacts to the curriculum. Please feel free to send him our congratulations and thanks.
Martin’s teaching service has some impressive highlights. He is delivering an increasingly popular microbiology course; the connection with students being especially evident this year. Martin has been the primary driving force for our curriculum offerings in Microbiology for years and is also offering a new course in next-gen sequencing.
This award was decided on by the Kudos committee and the Chair. Nominees were collected based on the peer review process and the committee voted based on peer review, student evaluations, the recent history of teaching awards, and overall impact on the curriculum. The award is accompanied by a token of our appreciation in the form of a $1000 cash prize.
Are you interested in nominating one of your colleagues for this or a similar award, or just want to recognize someone for making things better, please click on the “kudos” button on the menu of the UVA Biology web site.
Thank you, Martin!
