Whether genetic variation in plasticity is driven by stabilizing or diversifying selection has remained unknown.  Looking at antipredator modifications in the head of the water flea, Daphnia pulex, the Bergland lab has shown that plasticity in this natural population is largely driven by stabilizing selection. Click here, to read more.
