Study Abroad

A Study Abroad experience is an excellent opportunity to broaden both scientific and cultural perspectives, and in some cases improve language skills.

Taking Biology Courses Abroad

Some courses taken abroad may be eligible for direct or transfer credit applicable to Biology major or minor requirements. For more information about this, please visit Education Abroad: Academic Credit FAQ.

All students interested in a Study Abroad experience are encouraged to do the following:

Direct Credit Programs

Direct credit applicable to Biology major or minor requirements is available for some courses within two study abroad programs.  Verify with an Education Abroad Advisor which courses are direct credit eligible.  STEM courses in these programs are taught in English.  Being a pre-health student is not a requisite for participation in these two programs.

Transfer Credit from Other Study Abroad Programs

The Biology Department grants up to 6 credit hours of transfer credit applicable to a Biology major, or up to 4 credit hours for the Biology minor for some courses offered by other study abroad programs.

It is critical to receive prior approval for transfer credit requests.
