Dear Colleagues,

Please join me in congratulating Jenny Guler for receiving the Scientist of the Year Award for 2025 (Life Sciences), a special program of the Virginia Academy of Sciences.

The Virginia Academy of Sciences (VAS, https://vacadsci.org/about-vas/) is a long-standing advocate for the sciences and STEM education in Virginia, and they are often consulted by policy makers in Richmond. Our own Arthur Burke Sr. graduate award was bestowed on us through Arthur Burke Jr.’s participation in both the VAS and the Department of Biology. It behooves us to consider being involved as science advocates and consider becoming members.

This year, the annual meeting of the VAS will be held in Charlottesville on May 22, where Dr. Guler will be recognized.
