Hello! My name is Michelle, and I am a third-year from Fairfax Station, VA majoring in biology and minoring in psychology. I hope to attend medical school in the future, and am currently open-minded about what specialty I would like to pursue! Outside of peer teaching, I enjoy running, spending time outdoors, as well as exploring the food scene around Charlottesville with friends. On Grounds, I study the effects of modulating T-type calcium channels in medulloblastoma in the Abounader Lab, volunteer with Madison House Medical Services, greet patients as a volunteer nurse at the Charlottesville Free Clinic, and serve as a recruitment officer for the Remote Area Medical chapter at UVA. I was interested in peer teaching because I know that for many students, BIOL 2200 lab is their first time taking a college-level laboratory course. I wanted to make the lab experience enriching by helping students connect concepts learned in lecture to hands-on experiments, and enjoy helping students gain a better understanding of fundamental topics in biology.
