My name is Dena and I’m from Blacksburg, VA. I'm a third year working on my B.S. in Biology. In the future, I hope to get a PhD in biology and work as a professor and researcher. I’m currently involved in an independent research study related to the genomics of type 1 diabetes in the Center for Public Health Genomics at UVA.

I applied to be a Peer Teacher because UVA's intro bio classes were some of my favorite classes and I wanted to help students learn how to engage with biology. I think it’s important that my fellow peers gain the perspective that they are scientists experimenting in a lab, and I hope that my efforts as a Peer Teacher are helping them realize this!
