Hi, I'm Ava! I am a second-year student from Hackettstown, New Jersey, and I am planning on majoring in neuroscience or biology and minoring in psychology. In addition to being a Peer Teacher for BIOL 2100, I am a research assistant in the Desai Lab in the Department of Pharmacology, I volunteer with Cville Area Harm Reduction, and I am a Culture of Respect Educator. In my free time, I love to practice Brazilian jiu-jitsu and muay Thai, listen to progressive rock, go hammocking, draw, paint, and try new things! I became a peer teacher because I wanted to serve as a mentor for underclassmen navigating pre-health tracks and UVA in general, and because I wanted to elevate other students’ experience with a subject I love!
