“Visual motion processing in the tree shrew superior colliculus”
Journal of Neuroscience doi: 10.1523/JNEUROSCI.1511-25.2025.
Neurons in the tree shrew’s superior colliculus respond best to fast, coarse patterns of movement and combine motion signals in a way that lets them detect overall motion direction. These results show that tree shrews process motion in ways that are partly like rodents and partly like primates, making them a useful species for studying how visual motion is analyzed in the brain.
