Undergraduate Nayla Labban awarded Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation Scholarship

Nayla Labban, a second-year Biology major has been honored with the prestigious Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation scholarship for scientific research.  According to UVA Today, Labban’s mentor, Dr. Sarah Kucenas stated, “Nayla has made my lab a better place and made me a better mentor.  Her insatiable thirst for knowledge and excitement about science is infectious and she makes others around her better.  I have no doubt that Nayla is destined for success.  I feel privileged that she has allowed me to foster her growth.”

Not a stranger to academic accolades, Labban is currently an Echols scholar who received the Virginia Council on Women’s STEM Scholarship, the Linhart Foundation Scholarship and the SUEZ Academic Award Scholarship.  Of her most recent award, Labban stated, “The scholarship will allow me to commit a greater portion of my time and effort to my own research project, while also make me privy to the international scientific community through attending conferences and seminars.”
