Angie Morris, a Ph.D. candidate working in Dr. Sarah Kucenas’ lab, has just had a paper published in Developmental Dynamics entitled, “Transmission Electron Microscopy of Zebrafish Spinal Motor Nerve Roots.” Describing her paper, Angie said, “Spinal motor nerves relay information from the central nervous system to innervate muscles, glands and organs. By using a technique called transmission electron microscopy (TEM), we can identify ultrastructural changes to the cells that form motor nerves, possibly revealing important information about nerve function and disease. Because locating spinal motor nerve roots in adult zebrafish is challenging and time consuming, we created a protocol that allows us to quickly and precisely locate motor nerve roots for ultrastructural evaluations using TEM."
