Dr. Robert Grainger has been awarded with new funding from the Vision For Tomorrow Foundation. The organization provides support to families affected by aniridia or albinism, and also funds research for better treatments and prevention of these conditions.
The proposal, entitled, “Elucidating the Causes of Glaucoma Associated with Aniridia: Links to Metabolism and Beyond”,” will be funded through January 31, 2019. Dr. Grainger described the research goal as, “to establish whether glaucoma in aniridics, which typically first appear in children and young adults, is acquired as a result of metabolic changes known to occur in aniridics approximately during this same age range (e.g. insulin resistance, high BMI).” Over the course of the next two years, the project will be awarded $120,000.
